The practice is approved for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
These fully qualified doctors from the Northwick Park Training Scheme are attached to the surgery to gain post-graduate experience in general practice. A registrar will have a number of years' experience in a hospital environment typically covering Accident and Emergency, Maternity, Geriatric, Paediatric, General Surgery and other specialities.
It is normal for us to have two registrars within the practice at any one time. Each has a GP trainer that they work with (either Dr Rajani or Dr Goel).
The registrar will:
During their time with the surgery registrars may video the consultation for training purposes only. The video is of the discussion with the patient only; no medical examination is recorded. You will always be asked for your consent, both before and after the consultation, if you agree to be videoed. The video is treated in the strictest confidence and is purely for the registrars' development and training.
Students from London Medical Schools are attached to the surgery to learn about general practice. We appreciate the help given to us by patients who volunteer to attend teaching sessions that enable medical students to learn about different medical conditions.
Practice nurses are available by appointment for minor illnesses, minor injuries, immunisations, travel advice, dressings, removal of stitches, family planning and cervical smears. The nurses are trained in chronic disease management including diabetic and asthma checks.
Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as phlebotomy (drawing blood), some injection, blood pressure measurement and new patient checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one.
